In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson tells us that “all men are created equal by their Creator with certain unalienable rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” One thing is for sure: Americans have been pursuing happiness ever since…and with a passion!
However, I do have some bad news. If the pursuit of happiness is your primary goal in life, get ready for disappointment. You will never find it. Happiness is not the result of pursuing; happiness ensues. In other words, Happiness results from making the most of your God-given gifts and talents. The pursuit of happiness is a selfish thing, and selfishness never leads to happiness.
Develop the gifts and abilities God has given you for service to others. In the process, you will likely discover happiness. Happiness ensues service, not selfishness.
We will never find happiness through selfishness. But pursue God and happiness follows.
